More than 60 US-companies in Formula 1 2020

The number of American companies is continuing to increase in Formula 1. This season there are over 60 US-based official partners and technical partners in Formula 1. The number of US companies in the sport has, according to Spomotion Analytics, increased with almost 50 per cent in 2 years.

Fact is that in 2018 the number of US-companies in Formula 1 was just over 40. Now they are over 60 and dominating the sport with almost 30 per cent of the total team partnership base.

UK is second with almost 40 companies. Third place is Italy with 17 partners closely followed by Japan and Switzerland. France and Germany have both 12 partners.

McLaren has more than doubled the number of US-partners in 2 years. Mercedes-AMG Petronas has during the past 3 seasons been the team with the strongest US-base, but McLaren has now outperformed Mercedes-AMG Petronas, with only 1 official german partner, with more than 30 per cent of the partners coming from the US. Renault has increased the number of US partners with more than 50 per cent in 2 years. Almost all new partners are US-based. Alphatauri is the only team with no US-partners.

Alfa Romeo Racing was the team increasing the partnerships base the most when going in to the 2019 season. The team found almost 20 new partners. In 2020 it is McLaren increasing the number of new partners the most. The latest new partner is the Belarus steel company Miory Steel. Belarus is among those “exotic” countries, including Malta and Isle of Man, this year. McLaren have close to 50 partners in 2020 when Haas have 10.

Formula 1 series have lost a couple of companies but also found new, among them Saudi Arabian oil giant Aramco and German Wurth owned Liqui Moly as well as betting company 188 Bet, registered in Isle of Man.

There are only 1 Russian and 3 Chinese companies in the sport, as official partners of teams 2020. Sweden is perhaps the country still surprising with 6 partners. Last year there were 9 Swedish companies in Formula 1.
